Siberian Husky Puppy -

Before you buy, part 2

Still thinking about getting a Siberian Husky puppy? As promised, we continue today with requirements one should satisfy before acquiring a Siberian Husky puppy. Given a Siberian Husky’s level of energy, try to answer these questions:

1) Can you spare 1 to 2 hours a day for some activities of moderate intensity with your Siberian Husky? In the beginning, it is advised to restrain your Siberian Husky puppy from running (jogging) as this can hurt it. Wait until your Siberian Husky puppy is at least 18 months old; at this point, the bone structure is well developed and it can support more strenuous exercises. This will be the moment when you will need to dedicate between 1 to 2 hours per day to exercise your pet. A restless Husky is a bored Husky and a destructive pet. As your Siberian Husky puppy grows, you will see it for yourself that its energy levels increase as well.

2) Can you spare between 1 to 3 hours per week to take your Siberian Husky puppy to training classes? If you have no previous experience with a Siberian Husky puppy, and don’t know how to train your Siberian Husky puppy, you are better off going to these classes to make sure your Siberian Husky puppy doesn’t pick up any bad habits you don’t know how to handle.

3) Can you spare at least 1 hour a day to train your Siberian Husky puppy (not necessarily 60 consecutive minutes, but overall, during one day) new commands and reinforce old ones? Repetition is the key to retention. A Siberian Husky puppy is a very intelligent animal but it likes to test your patience. You will have to use creativity sometimes to get your point across, but your Siberian Husky puppy will get the message.

4) Will you be able to afford food, medication, yearly shots, cage, training materials and any other expenses your Siberian Husky puppy will incur? Traveling with your Siberian Husky puppy can be complicated, and that means you might have to leave your Siberian Husky puppy behind, at a kennel, during your absence. Will you be all right having to do that?

Our next articles will attempt to help you decide where to acquire a healthy Siberian Husky puppy, so keep checking back for updates.
